Accommodations
Comfortable accommodations in wide range of style and price are available for guests at Wintergreen. There are private and shared rooms in the lodge, as well as cabins and tenting sites. Bathrooms are shared.
Our delicious meals feature organic and local foods (localflavours.org - desertlakegardens.com). Most of our meals are vegetarian, although we serve fish and chicken for some of our evening meals. Produce and herbs from the courtyard garden are picked fresh throughout the day. Snacks, tea, and coffee are available 24 hours a day on a self-serve basis.
The lodge was built during the summer and fall of 2008. Other outbuildings, featuring cordwood construction, have been built since, including our popular wood-fired sauna.
The Wintergreen lodge is accessible for guests with physical challenges. Our lodge is a one-storey facility, with amply proportioned entrances, as well as wheelchair accessible bathrooms for men and women. Some of the trails and laneways immediately surrounding the lodge are also wheelchair accessible.
Cabins
Three hand-built cabins are available for guests. After a 15 to 20 minute hike through sometimes rugged land of mixed forests, ponds, and granite outcrops, you will arrive at the Hobbit House – like walking into a fairy-tale. A little further down the trail is the Parthenon, another magical find in the middle of the woods. The third smaller cordwood cabin is located near the lodge. Cabins are single or double occupancy. Meals are provided in the lodge during workshops, with limited cooking facilities in the cabins for personal retreats.
Rooms
Private and shared rooms with simple furnishings are available in the lodge. The lodge is constructed with straw bales, and the bedroom wing of the lodge is sheltered with a living roof with a drainage mat constructed from recycled materials. There are spacious windows in every room, with views to the meadow, forest, or pond. Delicious meals are provided in the great room in the lodge.
Tent Sites
Tenting is available on designated sites in the summer months. Sites have tent platforms, an outdoor shower, an outhouse, and a covered shelter for light cooking. Meals are served in the great room of the lodge.
