The Land

Explore the unique features hidden throughout the forest and grounds.

Trails

Guests have access to a network of over a dozen trails for self-guided hikes through the 204-acre property. The land features mixed forests and meadows, granite outcroppings, ponds, and marshes. It is home to a wide range of plant life and wildlife.

Courtyard Gardens

The gardens are a sight to be seen in the summer months—bursting with fresh vegetables, herbs, and a wide array of native plantings to support local pollinators.

Guests are served bountiful, gourmet meals during events, featuring local and organic foods, much of which is grown in our own gardens.

Waterfront

Wintergreen sits on the edge of Paddy’s Lake, a semi-private lake but a 20 minute hike from the lodge. This glacier carved lake is perfect for a dip to cool off on a hot summer’s day or a skate on a clear winter’s day.

All guests are welcome to use Paddy's Lake for recreational purposes. There is a canoe and rowboat available.

Fishing is allowed on Paddy's Lake but guests must possess a valid fishing license and follow the Ontario Fishing Regulations (including open and closed seasons, possession limits, and size restrictions).

Outdoor Classroom

Built in 2022, with support from the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area and the Township of South Frontenac, this truss structure was designed as an outdoor gathering space for events and private retreats. It can be used as a workshop centre for educational programming such as the Land Art BioBlitz, a stage for music concerts such as the Snow Moon Festival, a platform for intimate sharing circles and healing work, a studio space for arts workshops, and a communal dining area for weddings.

a rock labyrinth at sunrise

Labyrinth

Built in the summer and fall of 2017 (moving rocks takes a long time!), the stone labyrinth is just minutes from the lodge. It features a 7-circuit design, known as the Cretan and Minoan pattern, dating from the 11th century and earlier.

The labyrinth is a central feature in Wintergreen’s seasonal programming—we host a labyrinth walk around each Solstice and Equinox—but guests are also invited to wander the labyrinth at will.

bees flying into a painted hive

9th Meadow Apiary

This buzzing bee village, built in the spring of 2019, is located just south of our lodge in what was once called Field Number 9, when the land was farmed many decades ago. And so, we named our hives 9th Meadow Apiary.

Camping Meadow

Set in a private meadow mere steps from the lodge is a camping area designed for those who prefer to sleep under the stars. There is a roomy fire pit with wooden benches, a sheltered camp kitchen, and plenty of tent placement options.

Sauna

Built in 2009, the cordwood sauna is mere seconds from the lodge. Wood-fired and cedar lined, it heats quickly and provides a cozy experience for three or four adults at a time.
