An Acoustic Evening with George Woodhouse & Gary Rasberry

  • Wintergreen Studios 90 Wintergreen Lane (formerly 9780 Canoe Lake Road) South Frontenac, ON Canada (map)
I believe that sharing your gifts with the world is a public service. When we give ourselves permission to experience joy, we inspire, we heal, we connect.
— George Woodhouse

Join us for a fine evening of fellowship, food, and acoustic music by George Woodhouse and Gary Rasberry. These two musicians have been friends since George attended Queen’s University nearly a decade ago. Their lives have been intertwined ever since, through mutual friendships, travel, a love of the East Coast, and most of all, a love for song and story.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

As a gift to himself for his 28th birthday, GEORGE WOODHOUSE challenged himself to write “a-song-a-week” for one year. When he reached the finish line after posting his final "song-a-week" on social media, he struck up a band to celebrate and called it “The Public Service". They were only ever meant to play one show, but when a hundred and fifty people showed up to see the weekly songs performed live, “George Woodhouse and the Public Service” kept a good thing going. Their debut album, Songs For The Living (2022), is a collection of love letters disguised as folk songs for the people and places we leave behind, not always by choice, but sometimes. Woodhouse and his band have now brought their indie-folk act to some of Nova Scotia’s most treasured stages including The Shore Club, The Carleton, and The Marquee, and were selected to perform an official showcase for Nova Scotia Music Week 2022. Songs For The Living reached number 3 on !Earshot’s National Folk/Roots/Blues charts and has hit no. 1 on CFBX in Kamloops as well as CFUV in Victoria.

JUNO-nominated children’s artist GARY RASBERRY has been a fixture on the Kingston music and arts scene for over three decades (and at Wintergreen for nearly two!). A noted artist-educator, Gary has held artist-in-residencies internationally, in California, Barcelona, and Amsterdam, and regularly criss-crosses the country as a VIA Rail Artist On Board, from Halifax to Vancouver, stopping along the way to perform at schools, festivals, camps, and house concerts. As an Imagination Consultant, Gary Rasberry offers Song, Story & Sound workshops in schools everywhere and does his very best to leave a trail of happy children and smiling parents in his wake. A published poet and internationally recognized singer-songwriter, Rasberry’s latest album, Polishing Stone, was released by Wolfe Island Records in April 2021.
