Wintergreen Scholarship Fund

Supporting Artists and Writers

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and funders, the Wintergreen Scholarship Fund has been established to provide support for artists and writers as they explore the intersections of climate, creativity, and self through extended workshop and residency experiences at Wintergreen. We recognize that financial constraints can hamper participation for deserving participants, and by establishing this fund we will broaden opportunities for artists and writers. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit and need.

In 2025, full scholarships were available for the Writing Change residencies and partial scholarships were available for the Writing on the Land retreat. Both took place in May.

A scholarship for a Lorna Crozier’s poetry workshop in 2026 has been awarded.

There will be partial scholarships for both the Writing on the Land retreat and Writing Change residencies in 2026. Please check the webpages for those courses for more details before submitting your application.

About Writing Change

The Writing Change residency (4 days, 3 nights) coincides with our seasonal Land Art BioBlitz (LABB) offerings, when educators and experts converge at Wintergreen Studios to facilitate a range of land-based learning opportunities for students, community groups, and the general public. It’s during this unique time that we invite young writers to our site to enjoy private writing space as well as joining a remarkable group of climate leaders and changemakers for communal meals, conversation around the campfire, and participation in select workshops and events.

About Writing on the Land

The Writing on the Land retreat brings together award-winning writers and editors who understand the writing process and what’s involved in trying to find your footing. The retreat is a unique opportunity to work with seasoned guides who can speak to the full cycle of envisioning, researching, creating, revising, submitting, publishing, and beyond.
