For bees, the flower is the fountain of life. For flowers, the bee is the messenger of love.
— Kahlil Gibran

If you build it, they will come — so we did!

We all know that the term “beeline” comes from the behaviour of bees but have you ever stopped to consider just what it means? Join Alex Pedersen to learn more about the Waggle Dance and the actions behind the word.

This crash course in beekeeping will include topics like planning for honey bees, site location and set up, to electric fence or not, beekeeping supplies and equipment, protective clothing, native plantings, bee behaviour and warning signs, common pests and diseases, and so much more!

ALEX PEDERSEN is an avid beekeeper and a board member of the Limestone Beekeeper’s Guild. She took courses in apiculture at the University of Guelph’s Honeybee Research Centre as an undergrad student. Today, she and her partner keep hives north of Kingston to collect honey and other hive byproducts.
