Volunteer at the Land Art BioBlitz

 

Be part of the amazing team that makes the magic happen!

The Land Art BioBlitz offers a variety of volunteer roles to accommodate different skillsets and to ensure the event runs as smooth as possible.

Incentives include: meeting other like-minded community members, delicious free meals each day of volunteering, access to high-quality workshops on natural history and land art, and a letter of recommendation (upon request).

Visitor Experience

Help ensure participants have a joyful day at the Land Art BioBlitz.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the BioBlitz through social media
  • Support the welcome desk at the BioBlitz
  • Provide information to visitors, as needed
  • Hand out and collect surveys from visitors
  • Prepare accommodations for overnight guests (linens and towels)
  • Maintain lodge cleanliness
  • Stock firewood in camping meadow

Ideal Skillset

  • Organized
  • Independent and self-directed
  • Interest in the natural world
  • Comfortable spending long stretches of time outside

Commitment

  • Mandatory Training: Saturday, May 29 from 10 AM – 3:30 PM
  • BioBlitz: Choose a minimum of 2 days to volunteer during the BioBlitz (June 2-6, 2020). These can be full or half days.

School Liaison

Help ensure the school groups have a beautiful day at the Land Art BioBlitz.

Responsibilities

  • Greet your assigned school group when they arrive
  • Guide your group from workshop to workshop
  • Take your group on a self-guided hike
  • Interview students to gather feedback during the day
  • Lead your group back to the bus at the end of the day
  • Provide support to your group throughout the day, as needed

Ideal Skillset

  • Interest in working with children
  • Interest in the natural world
  • Organized
  • Independent
  • Ability to hike
  • Ability to stand for long period of time
  • First aid experience an asset, but not necessary

Commitment

  • Mandatory Training: Saturday, May 29 from 10 AM – 3:30 PM
  • BioBlitz: Choose a minimum of 2 days to volunteer during the BioBlitz (June 2-6, 2020). These can be full or half days.

Kitchen Support

Help make nourishing meals for our Land Art BioBlitz volunteers, workshop facilitators, and staff!

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals for volunteers, facilitators and staff
  • Assist with dishwashing, by hand
  • Help keep the kitchen tidy (i.e., wiping counters, putting away dishes, and sweeping the floor)

Ideal Skillset

  • Experience cooking and baking
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to work in a small team
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Commitment

  • Mandatory Training: Saturday, May 29 from 10 AM – 3:30 PM

Photographer

Help document the Land Art BioBlitz through photography and/or videography.

Responsibilities

  • Take photos and/or videos of participants at the BioBlitz
  • Ensure children with no photo permission are excluded from photos (a list will be provided)
  • Provide Wintergreen with all photos and/or videos by July 1, 2020

Ideal Skillset

  • Experienced in photography and/or videography
  • Ability to hike
  • Ability to stand for long period of time

Commitment
