“It’s incredible what can be found through curious exploration of our incredible Mother Earth and all her gifts she so graciously gives us in our everyday lives, if we are open to seeing the beauty within our natural world abound. For example, we may have a calling to get to know a plant, and through that calling, we learn the magic through time, place and process.”
Are you interested in learning about natural dyes using plants on Wintergreen’s land? And leaving at the end of the day with a dyed cotton bandana? Then this workshop is for you!
This workshop is designed for beginners, although people with experience with natural dyes should also feel free to join.
During this full day textile-dyeing workshop, we will discuss sustainable dye plant foraging practices, consider concepts like native, non-native and “invasive,” and get hands-on experience dyeing with locally foraged dyes on cellulose fibres.
We will delve a bit into the science and history of natural dyeing and discuss adjustments you may wish to make in your own at-home dye practice to conserve water and limit waste/pollution
All materials are included in the registration fee including a pre-treated organic cotton bandana. Participants are welcome to bring additional fibre to dye.
Dress for the weather and for getting your hands dirty!
