“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than trees.”
Open Trails Challenge
Back by popular demand! In June we hosted our first Trails Challenge, and it was such fun that we are doing it again in September. Join us at Wintergreen for a day or for several days between September 17 and 21, where you can explore our breathtaking trails at your own pace! With 14 scenic trails winding through meadows, forests, granite outcrops, wetlands, ponds, and lakes, every step brings a new discovery. And there’s more—the challenge part (in addition to the hiking itself, of course)!
🔍 The Challenge: Ten of the trails have a letter placed somewhere on a tree. Collect all 10 letters, unscramble the word (hint: it’s a species found at Wintergreen), and you'll be entered to win a free weekend stay in one of our cozy woodland cabins!
The South Trail, Rainbow Ridge, South-east Corner Trail, and Marsh Trail are not part of the challenge. They’re… too challenging! :)
🌲 Come Any Day, Stay as Long as You Like
Whether you're a solo adventurer, a couple seeking a peaceful retreat, or a family looking for an outdoor challenge, this event is for you. Hike one trail or all ten—it's up to you! It’s possible to hike them all in a day if you start early! Or take a couple of days and explore some of the trails one day and the rest a day or two later.
Breathe in the fresh air, connect with nature, and experience the magic of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere. Lace up your boots, blaze the trails, and conquer the quest!
REGISTRATION
This community event is FREE and open to all. Registration to participate not required.
Note: Hiking the trails is self-guided and at your own risk.
Click on the button above to access the form for registering your clues. Clues for the Fall Trail Challenge, along with the mystery word, must be registered by September 30.
Should you like, a charitable donation can be made to help support trail maintenance and other free events at Wintergreen. All donations will receive a tax receipt.
Printed trail maps will be available on the Lodge porch in the little library. There are also poles for your use. And there is an outhouse in the Camping Meadow as well.
Bring anything you deem necessary to spend some time out on the land, which may include hiking shoes/boots, layered clothing, hat, insect repellent, water, and snacks.
Remember that some of the trails pass by cabins that may be occupied. Please be respectful both to other guests and to the land and its inhabitants.
This event was made possible by the ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk. We are so grateful for their support!
